How Much Does Vaping Cost? The Real Yearly Cost of Your Vape

One vape doesn't feel expensive. That's the trick. It's a small amount, many times, and it adds up quietly. Here's how to work out what vaping really costs you, and why it's one of the most motivating numbers when you quit.

Work out your own number

Take what you spend on a normal day. If you buy a disposable every few days or pods every week, divide it down to a daily figure. Then:

  • Per week: daily cost × 7
  • Per month: daily cost × 30
  • Per year: daily cost × 365
$6 a day= $2,190 a year

Six dollars a day is the price of a coffee and a snack, and it comes to more than two thousand dollars a year. Here's how different daily amounts add up:

$3/day$1,095
$6/day$2,190
$10/day$3,650
$15/day$5,475

Over five or ten years

At $6 a day, five years of vaping is about $11,000, and ten years is about $22,000. That's a car, a few trips, or a solid emergency fund.

The hidden costs

  • Upgrades and replacements: new devices, chargers, lost vapes, "just one more" disposables.
  • Time: trips to the shop, breaks to vape, charging.
  • Health: sore throats, coughs and the long-term unknowns. See vaping side effects.
  • Headspace: the low-level worry about running out, or where you can vape next.

Use the money as motivation

When you quit, the money comes back to you immediately: every day you don't buy a vape, you keep what you'd have spent. Some ideas to make it count:

  • Move your daily vape money into a separate savings pot every week.
  • Pick a reward for 30 days and a bigger one for 90 days. See quit vaping rewards.
  • Write down what that yearly number could pay for, and keep it with your reasons for quitting.

See it add up

Unvapd, the app we built to help people quit vaping, asks what you use and what it costs, then shows your yearly bill in your own currency. Once you start, it counts the money you've kept, live on your Home screen, next to your vape-free days.

Questions people ask

How much does vaping cost per year?

It depends on what you use. At $6 a day it's about $2,190 a year; at $10 a day it's about $3,650.

Is vaping cheaper than smoking?

Often it is per day, but because vapes are easy to use all day, many people end up spending more than they expect.
